She-Man (1967)
I was always surprised at how few people realized that the same person directed Porky's, A Christmas Story, Black Christmas, and Baby Geniuses. If you haven't heard, that man - Bob Clark - died yesterday. She-Man, his first theatrical release, was about a soldier who gets blackmailed into taking estrogen and wearing lingerie. Hell of a start to a 40-year career that would find mainstream success in a number of different genres.

Rhinestone (1984)

Turk 182! (1985)

From the Hip (1987)

Loose Cannons (1990)

It Runs in the Family (1994)
From this point on, Clark made a series of made-for-TV family films, before releasing Baby Geniuses and getting one last taste of (minor) mainstream success. I never saw the movie, but according to at least one reviewer, it apparently 'should delight.'

Baby Geniuses (1999)
At the time of his death, it looked like Clark was attempting to return to his roots with the teen-sex comedy Spring Broke and a remake of his first major hit, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things. It was an incredibly diverse career... which movie was your favorite? |

outraged-as-a-mother johnny says... there is something inestimably sad, and almost cliched, about the manner of the death of bob clark and his son. of all people, i'm sure he would acknowledge, though not appreciate, the irony of the fact that the movie director who began his career with blood-soaked grinders should perish in an horrific (and i don't want to hear from the grammar mavens among you) early morning auto accident on the pch. i'm not even going to get into the whole illegal alien thing, but, perhaps, in keeping with the genre, when this triple-x drunk is released from prison and la migra returns him to the squalor from whence he came, he'll be making the trip without his head. that would complete the circle nicely. |
