Manson and Squeaky Fromme (1973) - BAN LIFTED!
One of my favorite admat gimmicks is the "this movie was banned... but now you can see it" tagline. But unlike a lot of "banned" films, the claim on this admat is actually true. Federal Judge Thomas J. MacBride did ban the film on October 17, 1975 from 26 California counties so that potential jurors wouldn't get the wrong idea about Squeaky. The ban only lasted for a few weeks, and as soon as the jury was picked, theaters like this one took advantage of the built-in controversy. |
